During our winter break, members of the Surfdock Team went on a trip to Fuerteventura to catch some waves in the sunshine. To make the most of their trip SUP team riders, Keith Gorman and Peter Kosinski, were also logging a few miles every day to stay in shape for the coming SUP race season.
Here they are on their way from Corralejo to Isla Los Lobos, a little islet 4km off the coast of Fuerteventura.
It was a welcome surprise when Eric Terrien invited the two of them to do a race training with him in Corralejo harbour. Keith had met Eric at the SUP World Championship in Peru last year and they had met again recently at the Paris SUP Nautic Crossing, where Eric won the race in the Elite class. Knowing that both Keith and Peter were in Fuerteventura, Eric kindly offered to take them out for one of his training sessions.
Eric, who is currently ranking No. 3 in the world of SUP racing, lives in Fuerteventura and has his training base with Guisa Action in the Escuela Nautica, Corralejo.
The training session consisted of 45 minutes of 1km laps of paddling into the wind and coming back downwind followed by a quick succession of race start simulations. This is a routine that Eric completes six times a week, in addition to other cross training.
During the 1km laps Eric has some time to practice a few turns while the other two catch up with him.

It was a great distraction from the cold and dark winter training sessions in Ireland for the two Surfdock team riders and a fantastic opportunity to get an insight into the training schedule of one of the world’s top SUP racers.

Now it is back to their regular paddle training in the Grand Canal Dock to get ready for the 2013 race season.
